Things Learned Living On St Croix USVI for 1 week.

The Virgin Islands is an island nation currently under the occupation of the United States. I moved here in August (2024) to continue my career as an RBT (Registered Behavioral Therapist) and so far I’ve not died in a Hurricane!

YAY ME

Here are a few things that I learned since I’ve been here, just in nobody told you….

1. DRIVE ON THE LEFT SIDE

There is so much emphasis on this because many people from the mainland come here to vacation and think, “Well its the U.S. Virgin Islands, and here in ‘Merica we drive on the right.” Wrong… Drive on the left, or you will surely SURELY get that ass cussed out in an Island dialect so harshly you’ll take your ass back to whatever ‘Tucky you come from

2. Gasoline costs the same EVERYWHERE on the island because….

There are 2 or maybe 4 families that own all the gas stations, so there’s not that much difference in price. Right now, we’re at $3.99/gal, and I have only seen 1 station with a different price at a door-busting price of $3.98/gal.

3. Major Hurricanes serve as time markers for the people of the Island.

Some of the older people point to Hurricane Hugo as a major life-altering disaster that changed St.Croix forever. You can still see some of the devastation that’s now been overgrown, while the biggest…
