The Unintended Consequence of Living on a Small Island.

Before moving to St. Croix, I was told about “Island Fever”, which I understand as once you are on the island, you begin to get sick of it and miss the conveniences of the mainland.

Moving from one small city (Santa Fe) to an even smaller city somehow made me feel better.

I was no longer trepidatious about leaving the house

Going to the bar, grocery store, or even to work was no burden; I could just get up, get ready, leave the house, grab a beer, drink and drive, light a cigarette, do what I had to do, and then get back home in no particular rush.

Recently I made my way back to Santa Fe for the holidays and to see off my final 2 grand pups to their new home.

Of course, since I was back in town, I had to let my people know that the almighty Nic Fit had finally returned to the desert.

Upon visiting, I had no problems for the first week; there was no instinct calling me to avoid people, which is my typical motus operendai; if not outright avoid them, then just keep the interaction short,positive, and light.

It wasn’t until I went to the mall to find a fragrance store that I needed to return to the island with a new scent in the hopes it…
