I Love You, Bunny
Final Speech to Grandma
I will start by saying I love you and I am glad that you, my beloved my rest.
You all said you were her favorite, and as true as that might be, I am indubitably the cutest (anticipate laughter)
There is nobody that I know of, without a shadow of a doubt that made it into heaven. If there is one, I know you are adorned in the finest of silks and in the everlasting warm embrace of your savior and the savior of us all. You have earned your place on God’s celestial shores…
There was a time when my mother was not kind to me, and without hesitation, you moved in with my father, and I raised me as if you were my own mother.
When I was in middle school, and I would stay up too late to wake up for school, you would wake up at 6:30 am… not 6:31.. not 6:29… and not even 6:30:05… but 6:30, walk down the hall, open my door to see me sleeping. You would walk over to me and place your icey cold hands on my neck, waking me up instantly and say, “Time fi school nuh mon, wash yuh teet and gwan get redy”
I tell you, your hands were so cold, Grandma, and I hated it. I would gather my things and questionably wash myself, and walk to the bus stop. I tell you now, as a 30-year-old man, I wish your cold hands could brush my neck once more as I dread waking up for work.
